The second semester in school year 2016/2017 will start on January 23 instead of January 18, after the Ministry of Education and Science accepted the measure proposed by the Ministry of Health and the Commission for Communicable Diseases to prolong the winter break in order to avoid the flu spreading.
"Based on the flu risk, the Ministry of Education and Science accepted the measure", said Deputy-Minister Spiro Ristovski at Friday's press conference.
The schools will be notified of the decision over the course of the day.
Ristovski added that the two additional days (January 18 and 20) will be compensated on a Saturday, most probably in March and April, in order to fulfill the total class fund of 180 instruction days in the school year.
