At least 19 people were killed and 32 others injured in a bus accident in the state of Mexico on Friday, authorities said.
The bus hit a residential building in the small town of San Jose El Guarda, some 50 kilometres south-west of Mexico City, when the brakes failed, state authorities said.
The bus was on travelling from the western state of Michoacan to one of the country’s religious pilgrimage sites, Chalma in the state of Mexico, state authorities said in a statement.
Authorities said that minors were among the injured. There was initially no further information on the fatalities.
According to media reports, the bus passengers were pilgrims.
Assistant state interior secretary Ricardo de la Cruz said that he would travel to the scene of the accident to coordinate relief efforts for the injured and support the families of the victims.
